Mid-Century Modern 16″ Lighted Library Globe by Replogle, 1950
USA
1950
This handsome Lighted Library Floor Globe with moderne wood stand is a period piece and not a reproduction. Designed and edited by cartographer Gustav Brueckmann, this 1950′s floor globe was made by Replogle and measures 16″ in diameter. The olive green oceans turn into a warm antique tan color when lit and there is a metal time dial located at the North Pole.
Coated paper gores cover the large glass globe which is lit from the inside. The globe spins inside a full meridian ring made of metal and the globe and meridian ring spin inside the modern style wood base.
This piece would be right at home in a mid century modern environment, with the likes of Eames, Hans Wegner and Heywood Wakefield.
