We have affectionately titled this Barney Bright sculpture, Bottoms Up. The actual title of this work is unknown at this time, as well as the amount of pieces ever produced.
This figurative bronze sculpture depicts a shapely nude female with long hair in a somewhat erotic pose. Either that or she practicing yoga and working on her downward dog or standing forward bend. The figure is beautifully cast in bronze and finished in a rich brown bronze patina. She is mounted on a rectangular wood plinth base made of Walnut.
The Barney Bright bronze sculpture is original and signed Barney and numbered 1/9 in the bronze, at the base of her feet.
Barney Bright was born Jeptha Barnard Bright Jr. in Shelby County, Kentucky. Starting in the 1950s, Bright would be commissioned to do large scale sculptures for various commercial developments and buildings. He had his own sculpting business and foundry called the Bright Foundry, where he produced all his figural sculptures, large and small. He is well known for his Louisville Clock in Louisville Kentucky, which was completed in 1976. The highly ornamental 40 foot clock looks like a huge horse racing game wind-up toy, often referred to as the Derby Clock. Wiki
