This is a stunning antique Pub sign for Scotch Stores. The English pub was started in the late 1850′s and was open until approximately 1900. This is a great piece of pub history as well as an excellent example of the craftsmanship of the English sign makers. The sign was beautifully hand carved with 1/2″ deep letters, which were then gold leafed. The glass face of the sign appears to be the original glass, which protected the sign makers workmanship. The large wood frame may also be original, as it has some old mounting holes and patina from age.
This is a two piece sign that would have originally held a small wood moulding in the middle, thus joining the two pieces together as one long sign. The overall condition, superb carving and brightness of the gold leaf, make this one of the best pub signs we have ever offered. Perfect for a hotel, restaurant or the Scotch aficionado or collector.
