This elegant French Régence wall mirror with its Bérainesque* appearance, has a wide beveled frame with exceptional carving. The arched crown is topped with an exuberant high relief trophy of war, flanked with an intricately carved and pierced floral motif. Large protruding feathers from the plumed military helmet are grouped with Eagles, flags and crossed quivers.
The rectangular frame is adorned with lively scroll work on a low relief diamond patterned background. This is a very early mirror with construction showing the large tenons joining the corners of the frame. This frame was professionally regilded years ago and has a stunning burnished and matte gold leaf finish. The mirror plate is not original and has a 1″ beveled edge that can be seen in the photos.
