Lee Baxter Davis is a visionary American artist and influential art educator known for his meticulously detailed narrative drawings and mixed‑media works that weave personal mythologies, symbolism, and psychological insight into intricate visual stories. He grew up in rural East Texas and developed his craft early, eventually earning an MFA from the Cranbrook Academy of Art. Davis taught printmaking and drawing for over thirty years at East Texas State University, which is now Texas A&M University in Commerce. His teaching deeply influenced generations of artists and his art is rooted in figurative storytelling. He has been widely exhibited and is included in the permanent collections of institutions such as the Dallas Museum of Art and the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston. In addition to his artistic career, Davis has served as a Catholic deacon in Greenville, Texas, and continues to work from his home studio.
