Meet Thaddeus Penguin, created by Upstate New York artist Patience Brewster. Originally known for her illustrations of fanciful characters in books and greeting cards, she is now recognized for her wonderful 3D figures, ornaments and accessories produced and sold by MacKenzie-Childs.
Thaddeus is quite the well dressed figure. His yellow and white bow tie, complement the yellow trim on his orange and white diamond jacquard vest. We love his bright red orange striped socks and his black shoes with orange spats with yellow trim. As you can see in the photos, some of the painted surfaces of the clothing are covered with diamond dust and glitter. There is a hole on the top of his head where there once was a whimsical hat topped with a star. This is missing, but everything else is intact and in very nice condition.
We believe this Patience Brewster Thaddeus Penguin figure was most likely a store display. He is quite large compared to the standard figures and ornaments that were produced. The age is unknown, but we believe this was an early piece made by Dept 56. They produced her Krinkles and other imaginative pieces until 2009. Now her work is produced exclusively by MacKenzie-Childs.
