This wonderful reclining nude is a representation of Nu couché by Italian artist Clemente Amedeo Modigliani. Originally painted in 1917, Nu couché depicts a nude female figure in repose and is one of the most well known works by Modigliani. In 2015, Christie’s New York sold the painting at auction, which realized over $170 million, achieving a world auction record for the artist at that time.
This miniature Italian artwork is actually Pietra dura, most likely from the late 20th century. It is well executed and beautifully mounted in an ebony wood frame with gold trim.
