This Walter Philipp original painting is titled Jeanette and the Clown. The whimsical and brightly covered painting was most likely done in the mid 1950’s-1960’s. Walter Philipp was a well known New York artist in the 1940’s-1960’s. He was especially known for his surrealistic paintings of clowns. His unusual discovery and popularity by the art world, was featured in several articles and magazines, including Time and Life.
The artwork is mounted under glass in a vintage frame with exposed mat. The painting appears to be in excellent condition and has the artist signature W Philipp in the lower right. The back retains a gallery label for Joseph Sartor Gallery in Dallas, which closed in 1966.
